The single biggest question when moving to Stratum V2 is simple: does my hardware support it? In 2026 the answer depends entirely on firmware, not on the chip. This guide lays out which firmware speaks V2 natively, which does not, and how a translation proxy fills every gap so no miner is left out.
Native support depends on firmware, not the ASIC
A mining ASIC does not know or care about Stratum; the firmware around it does all the talking. That is why the same S19 board can speak plain V1 on stock firmware or full V2 on Braiins OS. When you ask "does this miner support SV2," you are really asking about its firmware.

Braiins OS: the native path
Braiins OS is the most established native Stratum V2 firmware. It is free and open, supports a broad range of Antminer models from the S9 era through modern S19-class hardware, and once installed it treats V2 as a first-class pool option. You enter the endpoint and authority key, it performs the Noise handshake itself, and you are mining encrypted with no extra components. Stock ASIC firmware: V1 today
The firmware your Antminer, Avalon, or WhatsMiner shipped with almost certainly speaks only Stratum V1. You have two choices: flash a V2-capable firmware like Braiins OS where supported, or keep stock firmware and put a proxy in front of it. Both get you to V2; the proxy avoids changing anything on the miner itself.
Bitaxe and AxeOS: bridge it now, native later
AxeOS on the Bitaxe is Stratum V1 based today, with native V2 support an active work in progress. You do not have to wait: a translation proxy puts any Bitaxe on encrypted V2 immediately, as detailed in Bitaxe on Stratum V2. When native support lands in a future AxeOS build, you will be able to drop the proxy and enter the endpoint directly.
The universal fallback: a translation proxy
Whatever your firmware, the SRI translation proxy guarantees you can reach Stratum V2. It speaks encrypted V2 upstream to mkpool and plain V1 downstream to your miners, so lack of native support is never a hard blocker. One proxy can cover a mixed fleet of Bitaxes, Antminers, and everything else at once.
The interim option: TLS
If you only want encryption and not the full V2 protocol, and your firmware supports a stratum+ssl:// URL, Stratum over TLS is a one-setting upgrade that works on a lot of V1 firmware, including AxeOS. It lacks V2's binary framing and job declaration but closes the snooping and hijacking holes immediately.
Bottom line
Native Stratum V2 today means Braiins OS for most people, with AxeOS catching up and other firmware behind.
